Black bears are really common around my town, Steamboat Springs, Colorado. I’m often curious about where their dens are in the winter. Sometimes they sleep in big culverts right in town! But I think a hole in the dirt with a bunch of dried leaves sounds much cozier.

This linocut is printed in black ink on Rives BFK printmaking paper. After the print is dry, I paint it with gouache, which is very similar to watercolor. Winter Sleep is an edition of 20 prints. The image is 9 x 9 inches and the paper is 13 x 13 inches.
