The illustrations above are called linocuts. They are made by attaching a piece of artist linoleum to a backing block. The linoleum is carved with fine tools. Afterward, a roller spreads ink onto the surface of the block and the areas that were carved away stay clean. Paper laid  over the ink is printed by rubbing the back or running everything through a press. Once the ink is dry, the print is painted with watercolor.


The images above are from my picture book dummy, A Lucky Day. Lucky the dump truck and his driver, Sven meet a family of rabbits who need help finding a new home.
